tibet expedition >> Cho-Oyu (8,201 m) (from Tibet side) |
Cho- Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world. It is very
popular among the climbers and considered the easiest of the 8000 m
mountains. We drive all the way to Cho- Oyu Base Camp after crossing
the Nepal- Tibet border (Kodari) via Nyalam and Tingri. Then, we will
be rewarded with a magnificent view of Cho- Oyu to the north,
surrounded by the unforgettable presence of the world's mightiest
mountains such as Lhotse (8501m.), Nuptse (7855m.), Chamlang (7319m.)
including the towering bulk of Mt. Everest to the east and south, to
the west there are Melungtse and Gauri Shankar massifs. We'll drive to
Chinese base camp via Kodari and Nyalam, acclimatizing en route. After
necessary preparations, we ascend to Advance Base Camp at 5700 m and
cross through steep moraines to set up Camp I at 6400 m. We then
continue our ascent to Camp II at 7000 m. Following days we set up
Camp III at 7500 m on the North West face. Finally, we set out for the
summit. The summit is long and difficult, demanding extra day to reach
the true summit on the far end of the high snowfield. Normally, we set
up 4 camps before attempting to scale the summit.
