UPPER MUSTANG TREKKING

  1. The once forbidden kingdom of Mustang lies in the north-west region of Nepal. Desolate landscapes and lavishly adorned monasteries, great rivers and fields created through the painstaking labour of humans over time, with the highland that extends endlessly northward and the pristine peaks of Annapurna and of the Nilgiri, which mark the horizon to the South, there are few places in the length of the great chain that cast anything like the spell of Mustang.

  2. This trip gives you the opportunity to go where few have been before. Most of the trek keeps to arid, high deserts inhabited mostly by people of Tibetan stock. The men folk are either traders or farmers while the women mostly tend the fields.

  3. Along with insights into the everyday lives of the people of "Lo" you will have the opportunity to witness their vibrant culture and also a chance to get a look at Lama Buddhism so little changed by time. Still somewhat restricted, the government limits the visitors in this area with high Trekking permit(TIMS Card) fees. Our trek to this land of magic and mystery begins at Jomsom, following a flight to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni, a ruined citadel town that guards the entrance into Mustang. Entering Mustang, we visit the 16th century monastery at Charang and the fortress city of Lo-Manthang. Here we observe the splendor and traditions of old Tibet that have suffered extinction in Tibet due to the Chinese takeover of its sovereignty. On our return from Mustang we may visit the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath and end our trek in Jomsom.
